Top Tips for Success
Every year, we set up nearly a thousand silent auctions. Some are more successful than others—and we’ve discovered that the host of the auction can take a few simple steps that can significantly make or break how much you raise for your cause.
- Location, location, location: Placing your silent auction in an area that is going to have high foot traffic for the duration of your event can drastically increase bids. Areas next to bars, buffets, and busy pathways tend to drive success. Avoid the “out of sight, out of mind” factor.
- Make it known: Advertising the items at your silent auction will help drive interest, encouraging your donors to bid. If there is any opportunity to advertise before the event—awesome. We encourage you to make frequent announcements regarding the progress of your auction. A countdown in the final minutes are important to boost competitive bidding.
- Variety is the spice of life: Having a variety of items at different price points is critical to having a successful silent auction. We want everyone to be involved, regardless of demographic.
