Choose Your Charity: Holiday Season

It’s our favorite time of the year here in the valley, the temperatures have finally dropped after a long summer, and the holiday season is right around the corner!

Unfortunately, the holidays are not the happiest time of year for many of our community members who struggle with financial hardship or health challenges. That’s why we are asking YOU, our valued customers, to join us in making a difference this holiday season through our Choose Your Charity program.

How does it work? It’s easy! Simply visit our showroom located in North Scottsdale, Monday – Friday, between 9am – 5p, to shop our incredible collection of sports, celebrity and historical memorabilia. A portion of each sale will benefit one of four featured charities, and you get to choose which charitable organization you would like to support. What better way to get your holiday shopping done early, and for a great cause!

Now through December 31^st, we are proud to support the Sun Devil Club, Make-A-Wish, Toys for Tots and St. Mary’s Food Bank as our Choose Your Charity benefiting organizations.

Sun Devil Club: Sun Devil football is well underway and while the team, led by coach Herm Edwards, has seen their ups and downs this season, they have certainly shown some incredible growth and potential. Other fall athletic teams that have seen recent success include the ASU Women’s Volleyball team and the ASU Men’s Ice Hockey team. After upsetting Washington, the volleyball team was ranked for the first time since 2015 and the hockey team started 2-0 for the first time in history! The Sun Devil Club raises money to provide resources for these student athletes allowing them the opportunity to thrive and grow while at ASU, and once they graduate. Make-A-Wish: Transforming lives one wish at a time, Make-A-Wish has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work since 1980. Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved – wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy. Toys for Tots: Giving back to the children in our community during the holiday season is paramount at Charity Benefits Unlimited, so making Toys for Tots a sponsored charity this quarter was an easy decision. Toys for Tots has reached 251 million children since 1947 with an incredible 548 million toys. AMAZING! They believe that every child deserves a Christmas, and we couldn’t agree more! St Mary’s Food Bank: Based in Arizona, St. Mary’s Food Bank serves to alleviate hunger through the gathering and distribution of food while encouraging self-sufficiency, collaboration, advocacy and education. Choose Your Charity: Q3

Headquartered in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona, the weather is really heating up this time of the year at CBU. But you know what’s even hotter? Our fundraising efforts! With nearly 6 months left in 2018, we are rapidly approaching the $5.4M mark for total raised for charities and non-profits. Our recently launched ‘Choose Your Charity’ program has been a big contributor to that incredible number and we’re excited to keep the program going as we kick off Q3. How does the program work? It’s simple! Each quarter, a portion of each showroom sale is donated to one of four featured charities. The best part? Our customers gets to choose which cause they will be supporting! Today we are excited to announce the four charities we will be supporting now through September 30th. Those organizations are the Sun Devil Club, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project and the Arizona Humane Society.

Sun Devil Club: School may be out for the summer, but that doesn’t mean our fundraising efforts take a vacation. One of our favorite partners, the Sun Devil Club raises money to provide resources that allow Sun Devil student athletes the opportunity to thrive and grow while at ASU and after they graduate. Make-A-Wish Foundation: It was an easy choice selecting Make-A-Wish foundation as one of our four featured charities this quarter. Make-A-Wish consists of thousands of volunteers, donors, and supporters who work to grant the wishes of children diagnosed with critical illnesses. Over the years we have raised a tremendous amount of money for the Make-A-Wish Arizona chapter through our Auctions in Action (AiA) program at the three valley Dave & Buster’s locations, and we are excited to announce that we have now expanded that partnership to include Dave & Buster’s Orange County, CA. The Orange County location will be fundraising for the main Make-A-Wish Foundation chapter, the same chapter that will benefit from our Choose Your Charity program. Wounded Warrior Project (WWP): It’s a huge honor to support a cause like Wounded Warrior Project. WWP serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on or after September 11, 2001. We look forward to future event partnerships with them, and hope to make this quarter one of our most successful yet fundraising for this important organization. You can learn more about WWP here.

Arizona Humane Society: After incredible results fundraising for the Arizona Humane Society in the first quarter of 2018, they are back by popular demand for Q3. The largest animal rescue and welfare organization in Arizona, the Arizona Humane Society has been committed to improving the lives of animals and serving the people of our community for nearly 60 years. We are thrilled to be supporting this wonderful organization through our Choose Your Charity program for the second time in 2018. Dillon’s KC BBQ

Over the years we have formed some incredible partnerships with local establishments across the valley, and in January of 2017 we were proud to add Dillon’s KC BBQ to that list. The Dillon’s Restaurant concept began in 1998, when Co-Owner George Valverde approached Rich Dillon to partner together to bring reality to Valverde’s vision. That vision DID become a reality bringing authentic Kansas City barbecue to the Valley of the Sun.

Our partnership with Dillon’s began with a single Auctions in Action (AiA) silent auction at the Arrowhead location. Fast forward 18 months and you will now find AiA’s at all four Dillon’s locations: Arrowhead, Thunderbird, Wildlife World Zoo and Lake Pleasant. Since that first silent auction we have now raised over $32k for deserving charities and non-profits!

The Arrowhead and Thunderbird locations were the first locations opened by Valverde and Dillon. Newly renovated, these locations are an ideal place to gather family and friends to enjoy amazing BBQ in a comfortable, at-home atmosphere.

It’s that time of the year again, time to announce the next round of benefiting charities for our Choose your Charity program!

We are proud to name OdySea Aquarium Foundation, Charros foundation, Sun Devil Club and Folds of Honor as our designated charities for the second quarter of 2018!

OdySea Aquarium Foundation: We began our Auctions in Action partnership with Odysea Aquarium in March 2017, and we’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the community support we have received! To date we have raised over $100,000 for the foundation, and we look forward to increasing that number with our ongoing Auctions in Action silent auctions, as well as proceeds raised this quarter through our Choose Your Charity program. The OdySea Aquarium Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity whose core focus is supporting education programs that assist low-income and Title 1 School in meeting and enhancing their curriculum. Thanks to generous community support in 2017, the OdySea Aquarium Foundation awarded scholarships to 50 low-income and Title 1 Schools. This enabled hundreds of students from across the Valley to attend field trips at the Aquarium at no charge. With your help and generous donations, even more schools will be awarded scholarships this year. Click here to learn more about the foundation.

Charros Foundation: If you attended a San Francisco Giants spring training game this season, there’s a good chance you saw our CBU team. In partnership with the Scottsdale Charros and the San Francisco Giants, we were proud to host silent auctions benefiting the Charros Foundation at each Giants spring training home game this season. Spring training may be over, but our fundraising efforts for this important organization will continue now through June 30^th through our Choose Your Charity program. The Charros works closely with a number of organizations who share our passion to strengthen our community and to build a better future for our children. Sun Devil Club: The ASU spring sports season is off to a great start, the softball team is ranked 12^th in the nation with a record of 23-4, the baseball program continues to grow, and ASU golf is in full swing! We have partnered with the Sun Devil Club previously through the football program and general events, and we look forward to our continued relationship with this amazing foundation! Folds of Honor: Last, but certainly not least, is Folds of Honor. The Folds of Honor mission is to provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members, an amazing cause that we are so excited to support! In addition to our Choose Your Charity program, we are also partnering with Twin Peaks Sports Bar & Restaurant to fundraise for this important organization, and you can be a part of those efforts! Thank you to everyone who came out to TPC Scottsdale for the Greatest Show on Grass, the Waste Management Phoenix Open. With record attendance numbers, Thunderbirds Charities saw an unprecedented amount of support for their efforts in the community. All week our booth was crowded with enthusiastic golf fans looking to shop for a cause! On the course, we saw the third straight year of the tournament extending to a playoff on the 18^th. This year, Arizona State University alum Chez Reavie and Gary Woodland battled it out for the title of 2018 Waste Management Phoenix Open Champion. Woodland would eventually top Reavie, as the record setting weekend came to a close. In all, 719,179 people came through the gates to watch some golf, enjoy a cold beverage or two, and to support Thunderbirds Charities. This year’s attendance shattered 2017’s number by over 60,000, and only looks to expand in the future!

2018 Phoenix Open

The Greatest Show on Grass returns next week as the 2018 Waste Management Phoenix Open tees off here in our home town of Scottsdale! During one of our favorite weeks of the year, Charity Benefits Unlimited will be onsite in the Expo Center fundraising for Thunderbirds Charities. With over 200 items from some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment, you can’t miss us!

Founded in 1986, the mission of Thunderbirds Charities is to assist children and families, to help people in need, and to improve the quality of life in our communities. You can catch the practice rounds at TPC Scottsdale on Monday and Tuesday, but the real fun begins on Wednesday with the Annexus Celebrity Pro-Am. Participating celebrities include: Arizona Cardinals players Larry Fitzgerald and Patrick Peterson, former Cardinals head-coach Bruce Arians, Pro Football Hall of Famers Emmitt Smith and John Elway, decorated Olympian Michael Phelps, and many more!

The actual tournament tees off on Thursday at 7:30am and goes through Sunday. There are some great names in the field this year, including headliners Rickie Fowler, Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama (winner of the 2016 and 2017 Phoenix Open), and legend Phil Mickelson.

After spending a day on the golf course, you can head over to the Birds Nest Concert Series for a night cap. Plenty of drinks and live entertainment will be available Wednesday – Saturday. Scheduled performers include: Flo Rida, Florida Georgia Line, One Republic, Zedd and Nelly.

2017: Year in Review

2017 saw Charity Benefits Unlimited reach new heights as a company with over 900+ Auctions in Action silent auctions and 300+ charity events across 6 states! Those events, combined with a record year for direct showroom sales, translated to over $800,000 raised for deserving charity and non-profit organizations. This is a substantial increase from 2016, and we are so thankful to all of our customers and partners who made this number possible.

One of the highlights of 2017 was our partnership with the Los Angeles Rams. Through a variety of fundraising programs including an onsite silent auction at each Rams home game (our team made 14 road trips to LA!), ongoing online auctions and special events, such as the Rams Kickoff for Charity Luncheon and the Taste of the Rams event, we have raised over $40,000 for the Los Angeles Rams Foundation! We would like to thank the Rams for their partnership and congratulate them on their first playoff appearance since 2004!

One of our most exciting partnerships in 2017 happened right here in our home state of Arizona and our home city of Scottsdale. That partnership is with OdySea Aquarium, located at 9500 E. Via de Ventura. Since launching our first Auctions in Action silent auction at OdySea this past spring, we have now raised over $70,000 for the OdySea Aquarium Foundation. The OdySea Aquarium Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity whose core focus is supporting education programs that assist low-income and Title 1 School in meeting and enhancing their curriculum. We could not be more proud of the success of this partnership and we look forward to working together in 2018!

In partnership with OdySea Aquarium, CBU has raised over $70.000 for the OdySea Aquarium Foundation.

In addition to the success of our AiA program in 2017, we had the honor of attending some incredibly successful events throughout the year. The Pump Foundation held its annual Gala at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles and raised over $27,000 in one night. Locally, Celebrity Fight Night raised $26,000 for Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, Jump Ball 2017 raised $19,000 for Phoenix Suns Charities, and Eric Dickerson’s Golf Invitation raised over $19,000 for Young Warriors Foundation!

We want to thank all of our partners for an amazing 2017. Together, we did great work for these organizations, and we look forward to working together in 2018 and beyond!

Lastly, we want to thank you, our customers. Without you, none of this would be possible! Arians Family Foundation

The Arians Family Foundation motto: A Voice for Children. Led by former Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians, Arians Family Foundation (AFF) aims to better the future for countless children across the nation, giving them a chance to live in an environment where they feel safe, loved, and in a culture where they can succeed. Charity Benefits Unlimited is proud to be a fundraising partner for AFF events throughout the Valley, and in Arian’s off-season home state of Georgia.

Each year, Arians Family Foundation holds several events in Arizona, including the Arizona Celebrity Golf Classic in the spring and the Arizona Cardinals Cards Kick-Off party in the fall. AFF’s marquis event is the Georgia Celebrity Golf Classic held in Lake Oconee, Georgia. Each year around the 4th of July, AFF invites hundreds of athletes and celebrities to join the event, which includes a gala night with musical guests as entertainment. In 2017, country star Chase Rice and American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks, performed for attendees during dinner. Charity of the Month: Special Olympics AZ

December 1, 2017

Charity Benefits Unlimited saw a record number of direct sales for the month of November, which meant a record donation for our Charity of the Month program. Thank you to everyone who visited our showroom last month and helped us raise money for the Sun Devil Club, our November Charity of the Month. We are excited to keep that momentum going in the month of December as we close in on nearly $5 million raised for deserving charities and non-profits!

To help us reach that goal, we are pleased to announce Special Olympics Arizona as our December Charity of the Month. A portion of all showroom sales, now through December 31st, will benefit Special Olympics AZ, as well as proceeds from from our Auctions in Action silent auctions, currently being hosted at 13 Mountainside Fitness locations throughout the valley.

Special Olympics Arizona provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with disabilities. For athletes, Special Olympics sports provide a gateway to empowerment, competence, acceptance and joy. The lessons learned in Special Olympics also impact their life skills. Sports training enhances focus and gives participants a structure for learning important lessons about perseverance, endurance and setting goals. Due to the incredible success of their programs, SOAZ is one of the most well-known organizations not only in the state of Arizona, but nationwide.
